Fairfield Union Local Schools News Article

COVID-19 EXPOSURE PROTOCOL UPDATED 10/28/2021

Fairfield Union Quarantine Guidelines as of 10-27-21

In-person Learning:
• We strongly recommend all staff and students wear masks on school transportation and in our buildings.

• A parent/guardian of a student or any staff members, who is identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, will continue to be notified by a school nurse and/or school administrator.

• The decision to self-quarantine is the responsibility of each family. However, Fairfield Union has a legal responsibility to exclude any student or staff member issued a quarantine order by the Fairfield County Department of Health. If you do not self-quarantine and FDH determines that the student or staff member must quarantine, Fairfield Union will be forced to exclude the student or staff member from all school functions for the duration of the quarantine order. Please note, only health departments have the authority to issue isolation and quarantine orders under Ohio law (school districts only have the authority to exclude students from school based on the quarantine orders of the health department).

• Any student/staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 will continue to be excluded from school in accordance with requirements from health officials. • Any student/staff member who has a COVID + person in the home will continue to be excluded from school and extra-curricular activities in accordance with requirements from health officials.

• Any student/staff member identified as a close contact will now be permitted to attend school daily if the person chooses not to self-quarantine and is willing to follow the requirements outlined herein:
o The student/staff member shall wear a facial covering indoors, as much as possible, for 14 days; AND
o The student/staff member shall continue to conduct daily symptom checks at home following the exposure. The student/staff member is not displaying signs or symptoms of COVID-19 (any student who becomes symptomatic will continue to be subject to exclusion from school unless an alternate diagnosis is provided by a medical professional); AND
o The student/staff member shall immediately isolate and contact a medical professional if experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

The student/staff member may discontinue the use of a facial covering after 7 days – if they do not develop symptoms and test negative between days 5-7. Please note, a COVID-19 positive test would result in exclusion from school and isolation per ODH/FDH for at least 10 days. Test results must be medically proctored and confirmed.

Extra-curricular & Co-curricular Activities:

• Students participating in school activities who are close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 may continue participation in activities under the following guidelines:
o The close contact shall be symptom-free; AND
o The close contact shall wear a mask for 14 days, when possible (locker room, bus, on the bench, when not performing).

• Please note: The tests referenced above are SARS-CoV-2 viral (PCR or Antigen) tests. All tests, including over-the-counter at home test kits, must be proctored/observed and lab confirmed by a licensed medical professional.

We want to strongly emphasize to everyone that symptom checks should be occurring on a daily basis. If you or a member of your family have any signs or symptoms of COVID, please do not come to school and contact a medical professional.

These guidelines have been developed with the goal of having consistency for our students, staff and families in the application of these guidelines, whether you are in a classroom or on a field of play.

As always, we encourage any community members with questions or concerns to please contact Superintendent Chad Belville or the District COVID Coordinator, Carole Osborne.
