COVID-19 EXPOSURE PARENT NOTIFICATION LETTER

Dear Fairfield Union Parents and Guardians,

The rate of exposure to a COVID positive person, whether at school or in the community, is high at this time.   Local health departments have asked for the assistance of schools in notifying students/parents of possible exposures at school and the appropriate next steps when there is a known exposure.  If your child was in close contact with a COVID positive person while at school, you will be contacted by Fairfield Union and the health department.

An exposure is defined as close contact (within 3 feet) with a COVID positive person for a cumulative 15 minutes over a 24-hour period while not wearing a mask.

A medical diagnosis shall be made by a licensed professional operating within their scope of practice, or by supervisees of a licensed professional operating within their scope of practice and within the supervision rules of the independently licensed professional.

The Ohio Department of Health has provided the following guidelines for those who meet the definition of an exposure to a medically diagnosed case of COVID-19:

The exposed individual who has been fully vaccinated or the individual who has not been fully vaccinated but was consistently and properly wearing a mask can remain in the normal in-person classroom setting.  In addition, they are to:

  • Wear a mask indoors, as much as possible, either for 14 days or until the individual receives a negative viral (PCR or antigen) test performed 3-5 days after the exposure.

  • Provide evidence of vaccine status to the school nurse if applicable.

The exposed individual who has NOT been vaccinated and did NOT consistently wear a mask:

  • May not attend in-person school

  • May return to normal classroom after 7-10 days if they have received a negative viral (PCR or antigen) test that was performed at least 5 days after exposure

  • If they test positive, they should isolate for at least 10 days from the date of the positive test

If you are feeling ill or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please stay at home.

As a reminder, per CDC and Ohio Department of Health guidelines, wearing a mask or face covering is strongly recommended for those that are not fully vaccinated.

Fairfield Union Local School District remains committed to keep our students and our staff safe and healthy. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Chad Belville, Mrs. Carole Osborne or the health department.
