BAKER RECEIVES GOLDEN OWL AWARD

LANCASTER, OH – Presented by Nationwide, the Ohio FFA, Ohio Farm Bureau, Farm Credit Mid-America, and AgCredit, the Golden Owl Award recognizes agricultural educators across Ohio for their tremendous contributions to helping the next generation of agricultural leaders. Students, fellow teachers and other supporters can nominate their favorite agricultural teachers and summarize what makes him or her the best in the state. With over 500 nominations for over 120 teachers in Ohio, Judd Baker, agricultural educator at Fairfield Union High School, was selected as a top 10 recipient.

Judd Baker has been teaching at Fairfield Union High School for 18 years and has been an agricultural educator for 7 years. Judd teaches courses in natural resources and forestry ecosystems where he encourages students to go outside to learn. Students utilize the F.U.L.L (Fairfield Union Land Lab) to study dendrology, timber cruising, tree tapping for maple syrup production, and chainsaw safety. Students also help to maintain the community garden at the high school. In terms of outreach, Judd works with numerous local organizations and businesses to provide help in building structures and materials. Some of the many organizations include Millersport Lions Club, Forest Rose School, and Lancaster Sheriff's Department. Outside of the classroom Judd leads the forestry judging team, the wildlife management team, and the outdoor power (small engines) team. In 2019, Judd received his Honorary State Degree for his hard work and dedication to the FFA organization.

Judd will be recognized again with the other top 10 recipients at the 95th Ohio State FFA Convention in Columbus, OH on May 4-5, 2023.

The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is composed of 850,823 members belonging to one of 8,995 chapters throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
