Fairfield Union High School Workforce Development Strategy

A New Path to Success: Preparing Students for Tomorrow's Workforce

Fairfield Union High School is excited to announce the early development of a new Workforce Development strategy. This initiative is designed to provide our students with the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to thrive in a rapidly changing job market. Our goal is to connect classroom learning directly to rewarding career opportunities right here in our community and beyond.

What is Workforce Development?

What is Workforce Development?

Workforce development is about preparing students for their future careers, whether they plan to go directly into a job, attend a two-year college, or pursue a four-year degree. It’s a hands-on approach to education that combines traditional academics with career-focused training, certifications, and real-world experience.

What will this look like at Fairfield Union?

While we are still in the early stages of planning, our vision is to create a program that offers students multiple pathways to success. We are exploring a variety of exciting opportunities, including:
  • Pre-Apprenticeships: Specialized programs of study that allow students to dive deep into a specific field, such as advanced Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Industrial Technology, Phlebotomy, Plumbing, Water/Waste-water Management through the Fairfield County Workforce Center.
  • Industry Recognized Credentials: The chance to earn valuable, industry-recognized credentials that make students immediately hirable after graduation.
  • Job Shadowing, Paid Internships, and Work Based Learning: Partnering with local businesses to provide students with paid work experience, mentorship, and a direct line to future employment with an early release from the school-day to work in real-world jobs that could help to fulfill an alternate pathway to graduation.
  • Middle School Career Technical Education: Finding ways to have our Rushville Middle School students get the chance to explore multiple careers before entering high school through field trips, tours, guest speakers, and some CTE course offerings at the middle school.
